Value-plus itself is a very simple system. It can work as a portal or as a part of a larger systems approach. You could look at this site as a container into which sections of other sites will fit. These simpler sections can be on any server anywhere in the world or a part of this site.
Where we have a topic such as genealogy we can make it a new site in its own right or we can make it little more than a computer directory off of this site. Where it is a part of another we use the 'friendly systems ' approach, to be able to fit that site into the main central part of this site, it just sort of plugs in.
Luckily are senior designer has many more tricks up his sleeve, and will be opening up many new areas. He has been involved in this area from the days when computers had valves and was one of the first people into micro's, and has produced many near miracles since.
The larger problem is the need of content, and we started by already having access to quite a lot, it just needs to be converted. We have clubs, a publisher, some authors, and several companies who have said we can make use of all the information that they have. Luckily we also within our team have people with a wide range of skills, and so will be able to get some of these into the system.
Over time we will also find more and more people willing to allow us to use their data or to write material for us, so in effect we are more than a library, we are a publisher as well.
As we progress we will also be taking on the role of project managers, so that a number of people can be used to build even larger and more useful resources. Asking a busy person to write a whole correspondence course for free may be expecting a bit much, but what about a section or an individual article. The medical system we plan will be a good example of this, we want to put together a system that leads from a basic introduction to treatment options to alternative remedies, using teams with knowledge in different areas.
The real secret to making this all happen will be me and you and others like us who are prepared to dream of solutions to real needs, to plan and to build the information to make it all possible.
